Shopify or Sellfy: Sales volume can change the cost of the package
Sellfy is worth comparing for selling content or products within a simple scope, while monitoring sales over the previous twelve months. Shopify merits consideration when commercial operations and required applications are more extensive. Compare costs at the expected volume: subscription, payment provider, optional extras and possible overages.

Differences that change choice
| Dimension | Shopify | Sellfy |
|---|---|---|
| Organization | Catalogue, orders and commercial applications to be defined. | Sales route and delivery of products to be validated. |
| Special cost | Applications and payment processing fees applicable to the package. | Sales ceiling over twelve slippery months, with change of plan or cost of overrun. |
| Output | Prepare to resume catalogues, orders and dependencies. | Prepare for recovery of files, clients and access conditions. |
Describe the product and its delivery
For a digital file, check the message received after purchase, access to the download and manage a request for support. For a physical product, add variants, stock and shipping. These are two different circuits even if they start with the same purchase button.
Sellfy should not be chosen on the assumption of an audience already present as in a market place. Plan how visitors will find the shop. Shopify also requires acquisition work to bring visitors to the catalogue.
Read the annual threshold before comparing the package
Sellfy links its offers to sales thresholds over a slippery period. In the event of overruns, the rules provide for upscaling or charges depending on the situation. Check the current contract and estimate your sales volume, not just the number of products.
The absence of regular transaction fees announced by Sellfy does not remove the costs of Stripe or PayPal. Shopify also distinguishes billing layers and payment provider conditions. Add the necessary applications to your journey before comparing the totals.
Simulate after-sales service
Run an exercise with a successful order, a buyer who cannot find their file and a refund. Check what remains accessible after cancellation and what the support manager sees. Repeated manual tasks may weigh more heavily than the difference between plans.
Choose Sellfy if its setup covers sales and delivery without adding multiple tools. Choose Shopify if your operational needs justify its ecosystem. Keep source files, descriptions and exports; calculate migration costs if the catalogue or channels become more complex.
A successful campaign before December: calculating the threshold over twelve slippery months
A hypothetical example in dollars: a Sellfy Starter shop has made 9 400 dollars in sales over the previous twelve months and plans a campaign worth 1 200 dollars. If no older sale leaves this rolling window during the campaign, the total reaches 10 600 dollars. Moving to 1 January does not reset the calculation: it covers the preceding twelve months.
The Sellfy documentation sets the Starter threshold at 10 000 dollars over this period and then requires an upgrade to the next plan. If the plan is not changed after the threshold is exceeded, it specifies a 2 % fee on each subsequent qualifying order. Upgrading stops these fees from accumulating but does not cancel those already due. You must therefore not simply apply 2 % to all annual revenue.
- Increase each month the slippery total and sales that will soon come out of the window.
- Before a campaign, compare the change of plan to the potential costs and functions required.
- For a digital product, also check the return of an access, file update and processing of a client request.
In Shopify, calculate the total cost of apps and payments for the chosen workflow in the same way. The relevant cost is that of the complete workflow, including delivery and customer follow-up. The campaign figures are illustrative; no actual revenue or conversion advantage between the two solutions has been measured.
