Shopify or Wix: compare payment and after-sales service
For a business focused on orders, first compare the operations and apps required in Shopify. For a shop within a larger website, check whether Wix covers the same workflow without complicated additions. In both cases, start with the payment provider available to your business: it can affect the cost and which features you can use.

Differences that change choice
| Concrete question | Shopify | Wix |
|---|---|---|
| Payment accepted | Check Shopify Payments or the applicable external provider. | Availability depends on country and provider. |
| Costs to be added | Distinguish payment processing and any third party transaction fees. | Distinguish compatible package and provider costs. |
| Recurrent sale | Validate the necessary configuration and applications. | The selected provider must pay recurring payments. |
Build a representative control
Create a product with multiple variants, limited stock and shipping costs. Add a discount code and simulate a cancellation. Look at what the team needs to do to correct the stock, warn the customer and track the refund.
If you are also selling in store or on other channels, check the synchronization you need. Check what information is circulating and in what direction, beyond the presence of the connector in the catalogue.
Separate the different layers of costs
Shopify distinguishes card fees and any transaction fees related to a third party supplier. Certain situations and means of payment have special rules. Use the country documentation and the exact package, then add the necessary applications.
For Wix, confirm the availability of the payment provider in your area and the specific costs of this provider. A subscription allowing trade does not make the processing of payments free. Calculate several average baskets and order volumes rather than a single monthly price.
Check work after sale
Test emails, export orders, and a colleague's return to a folder. A shop may seem simple as long as all orders succeed. Partial repayments, erroneous addresses and stock failures better reveal constraints.
Choose Shopify if the sales features you need justify its ecosystem and cost. Choose Wix if the required journey works in a setup you can manage. Before migrating, prepare redirects, content and useful customer data; a new storefront should not make your operating history inaccessible.
One product delivered each month: check what happens at the second payment
Consider this example: a small shop sells a monthly subscription box and also allows customers to buy a single box. The two buttons may look similar, but the operational requirements differ: the next billing date, address changes, declined payments and cancellation. Testing only the first purchase does not validate this business model.
The Wix documentation specifies that a recurring payment requires a compatible provider, available in the company area, as well as a package accepting the payments. At Shopify, third-party transaction fees are separate from the payment provider's fees, and there are exceptions to their application. The label "integrated payment" alone does not let you calculate the costs of these two configurations.
- Request a demonstration or test mode for a single sale and then a subscription, without a real customer card.
- Check the next due date, a modified address and the expected message when a payment fails.
- Control how to stop future deadlines without erasing the history of already delivered commands.
To compare the cost, save separately site subscription, possible subscription application, processing fees and applicable platform fees. Hold the solution whose chain is confirmed for your country and your product. No receipt or refund has been executed in this case; availability for a specific company remains to be confirmed with the providers.
