The decisive Invoice Ninja choice comes before the invoice template: do you want a hosted service or to administer your own installation? The cloud avoids the need to operate a server; self-hosting transfers that responsibility to your business. In both cases, start with the number of customers you need to invoice and the people who need access. Correctly generating an invoice guarantees neither the bank connection you want nor the regulatory transmission required in your country.

What Invoice Ninja offers on a daily basis
The Free plan limits the customer database to five clients while allowing unlimited invoicing. The number of different customers can therefore trigger the move to a paid plan. A consultant with two recurring clients has a different profile from a tradesperson who invoices new customers every week.
The grid includes projects and time tracking in Free. Prepare a mission combining package and additional hours: the point to check is the separation between time entered and time actually billed. This distinction prevents a total of hours from being interpreted as an amount already earned.
Enterprise adds users and their permissions; its price increases with their number. Separate the person preparing the documents from the person administering the access. Giving a shared account to the entire team complicates traceability and does not replace a fee setting.
The official terms state that the self-hosted code includes Pro and Enterprise features under Elastic License 2.0. This does not mean operation is free: budget for hosting, updates, backups and recovery. Someone must be able to take over the service if its usual administrator becomes unavailable.

The Free cloud plan is limited to five clients: unlimited invoices do not mean unlimited clients. Users and their permissions come under Enterprise, whose price depends on headcount. Self-hosting transfers server and data management to the operator; included features do not remove this work. For self-hosting, have a backup restored in a separate environment. For the cloud service, check the exports and access needed before subscribing.
