What to remember before choosing Wave
Wave restricts new registrations to businesses established in the United States or Canada; its help centre also excludes US territories. A business established in France or Martinique therefore falls outside the stated eligibility criteria. This review explains that limitation; a free plan is not a reason to circumvent eligibility requirements.
the country of eligibility before the payment plan and services.
What Wave offers on a daily basis
Wave explicitly indicates countries supported when creating an account. The language of the reader and his clients do not replace this criterion. A French company that charges US customers does not become a company established at the United States.
The help centre explains that the currency is chosen during the creation and can no longer be changed for this enterprise. For an eligible entity, this choice must correspond to its actual organization. The currency of an invoice and that of the file meet different needs.
The documentation distinguishes Starter and Pro. Start by checking the business’s eligibility; comparing tiers before that check would serve no purpose. Migration costs and continuity of your records deserve more attention than a starting price for an offer unavailable in your region.
If a company has entities in several countries, examine each entity separately with its accounting firm. Shared access or a common trading name does not make the records interchangeable. Document who issues invoices and who keeps the accounts for each business.
When this option makes sense
Who it is for: companies established in an officially supported area.
When to look at another approach: If your business is outside the United States and Canada, choose a service whose conditions cover your actual location.
Example: a Martinician service provider with foreign clients
The destination of his invoices does not change the location of his business. The restriction of Wave therefore remains the first criterion. To choose another service, the provider must check its own location, its sales currencies, the means of payment and the formats requested by its firm, and then only compare subscriptions.
Budget: compare the right scope
Budget Wave: the country of eligibility before the plan and payment services.
Three checks to see if Wave suits you
First check the legal establishment of the company. The following steps avoid selection that is incompatible with your area.
- Identify entity
Use the real country of establishment, not a customer, payment account or provider.
- Choose a compatible solution
For a French or Martinique file, ask explicitly to take care of this territory and the needs of the firm.
- Preparing for continuity
Before migration, keep existing documents and exports. Check what the successor can resume and what will remain in the archive.
Check entity before migration
For a group operating in several countries, prepare the details of the entity that would actually open the Wave account: where it is established, the currency of its accounting file and responsibility for invoices. Do not transfer a French company’s accounting entries to another entity’s file to circumvent a regional restriction. Limited commercial availability remains a reason to rule out the product, even if some features appear to meet the need.
