Add the new bank, then suspend the old account
To change banks in Indy, schedule a period with both synchronised accounts. When the old one is closed in the bank, suspend its synchronization in Indy: its transactions are kept. The deletion of the bank account is another action, which erases the associated data.
Analysis of official documentation, with no testing on a paid account.
This guide is for self-employed professionals and small companies replacing an external bank account already connected to Indy. Official help documentation consulted on 22 October 2026.
First check whether your plan allows the accounts to overlap
The official plan comparison limits Essentiel, the free version, to one synchronised bank account. It also states that full retrieval of earlier history starts with Plus, while setting up prior accounting records falls under Autonomie. Adding a bank and taking over a complete set of earlier accounts therefore address different needs.
If you use Essentiel, ask Indy how to arrange the replacement before removing the old account. To keep two accounts visible together during the transition, check the required paid plan and its cost in your account area. General workflows advertising multiple accounts do not remove this restriction of the free offer. Our guide to Indy plans helps to distinguish these rights.
Connect the new account without removing the old
The two official aids to add an account, first course and bank change route, refer to Settings > Banks > Add an account or card. For an account of an already connected bank, select the account concerned. For another bank, the second route describes Add a new bank, then authentication and account selection.
Take the account name and last characters of the IBAN for each. Then check a first recorded transaction of the new bank and the last known transaction of the old one. This control proposed by Logicelio avoids confusing two accounts with close titles. The documents consulted concern accounts in euro; they do not promise to take over an account in foreign currency.
An added bank does not alone move your levies, recurring payments or contact information already sent to customers. List these flows with their next deadline and confirm their new destination with the relevant agencies. This guide deals with their monitoring in Indy, not a banking mobility procedure.
An example completed to control the transfer
Let us take this case: a small business temporarily keeps its old account A and new account B, both business accounts and synchronised. A holds €640. It then receives a €360 customer payment, pays an €80 expense and incurs €20 in fees. The remaining amount to transfer is therefore 640 + 360 − 80 − 20 = 900 €, rather than the 640 € recorded initially.
In this example, the transfer of 900 € produces an output of 900 € on A and an input of 900 € on B. According toaid on internal transfersThese two transactions rank as Internal Transfer when both professional accounts are synchronized. They balance: −900 + 900 = 0 €. The entrance to B is not a new sale.
The check is complete when you can find both entries for the transfer, the three transactions since the opening balance and A’s final balance. Find both sides of the €900 transfer. If the matching entry is missing, search for the transaction in the correct period before changing its category; a refund, fees or a personal account must not be treated as that transfer by default.
Wait for bank closure before suspension in Indy
Theaid for the closed account described Settings > Banks > Administer > My account is closed in bank. This path suspends synchronization and keeps transactions. It does not close the account with the bank.
The procedure requires the bank account to have actually been closed. Indy then checks for a zero balance in the application and retrieval of the final transactions. If these conditions are not met, follow the displayed message and send support the latest statements showing a final zero balance. An account still being closed must wait. For Shine or Qonto, the same aid asks to go through live chat rather than carry out the suspension in autonomy.
Keep the original records and a record of accounting exports and supporting documents adapted to your situation. If transactions appear in a bank but are missing in Indy, see synchronization diagnosis before considering the transition as complete. Thehelp on missing movements requests that they not be re-created manually when they are already on the synchronised account statement.
Three actions not to be confused
| Documented action | Effect on data | Use concerned |
|---|---|---|
| Suspend the closed account | Transactions retained | Former closed bank |
| Remove banking connection via support | Operations already received retained; connection not restored | Persistent notifications after closure and suspension |
| Delete synchronised bank account | Transactions, supporting documents and associated data permanently deleted | Account added by mistake, subject to conditions |
The removal of connection concerns an already closed and suspended account which continues to request authentication. Indy processes it via live chat and specifies that the connection cannot be restored. This is not a troubleshooting on an active account.
The removal of the synchronized account deletes transactions and supporting documents. The help documentation describes it for a personal account used during a trial, after the business account has been added. It blocks the action if the account was used for a tax-year close or remains the only synchronised account; Shine and Qonto also require support assistance. This procedure is unsuitable for a former business bank account whose history you need to keep.
If you leave the business account proposed by Indy
Close the integrated business account is still a different approach. TheSpecific closure aid requests in particular to process sub-accounts, transfer the remaining funds and download the statements. It indicates the course Pro Account > Settings > Closing the business account, with strong authentication, followed by permanent closure by Swan within a maximum of 31 days. A screen showing “closure in progress” therefore does not confirm final closure.
If your new bank is unavailable, your account uses a foreign currency or your plan prevents the accounts from coexisting, ask support for a documented solution before switching. The Indy review remains the point of entry to choose the tool; for this change of bank, the expected result is more precise: found flows, explained transfer and old history preserved.
